Description :
SIM800C Shield is built with Quad-Band GSM/GPRS module SIM800C - datasheet . It supports receiving/sending messages – SMS , incoming/outgoing calls and connecting to the Internet via a GPRS network . It is controlled over a serial UART interface using AT commands .
The board has an Arduino Shield shape, with dimensions of 69mm x 53mm and is designed for mounting on an Arduino or an Arduino compatible microcontroller board . There is a slot for a micro SIM card, an on/off button, LEDs for indicating the status of the module, connectors for the GSM antenna, a combo connector for headphones and a microphone, jumpers for configuring serial communication, a CR1220 battery socket for the RTC of the GSM module and connectors for the Arduino I/O ports.
It is powered by a voltage of 6V - 9V, which can be supplied through the VIN pin or through the power socket of the Arduino board on which the Shield is to be mounted. During normal operation, it is possible for the current consumption to exceed 1A, it is recommended that the power supply provides 1.5-2A current.
It communicates with Arduino through ports D0 and D1 (for hardware serial communication) or through ports D7 and D8 (for software serial communication), configurable with jumpers. On the digital D9 of the Arduino Shield, the Power port of the SIM800C is output, in order to enable the GSM module to be turned on/off via the Arduino, and not only from the on/off button. Additional pins are provided, facilitating the connection and control of the module from other microcontrollers without using the Arduino connectors.
