The MP503 air quality gas sensor is a flat semiconductor integrated gas sensor designed for detecting harmful gases in indoor environments. Using multilayer thick film manufacturing technology, this MP503 sensor features a heater and metal oxide semiconductor material deposited on a subminiature Al2O3 ceramic substrate, encapsulated in a standard metal cap. The sensor operates on the principle that its conductivity changes in proportion to the concentration of the target gas — the higher the gas concentration, the higher the sensor conductivity. Users can implement a simple circuit to convert the conductivity variation into an output signal corresponding to gas concentration.

This semiconductor gas sensor demonstrates high sensitivity to alcohol, smoke, iso-butane, and formaldehyde (methanal), making it suitable for air quality monitoring in homes, offices, and industrial settings. The sensor offers quick response and recovery times, low power consumption, a simple detection circuit, and excellent long-term stability. The detection range for alcohol spans from 10 to 1000ppm, with a sensitivity ratio (Rs in air / Rs in 50ppm alcohol) of at least 5.

The MP503 operates with a loop voltage (VC) of up to 24V DC and a heating voltage (VH) of 5.0V ± 0.1V AC or DC. The heating resistance is 95Ω ± 10Ω at room temperature, and the heating power consumption is ≤300mW. The surface resistance ranges from 1KΩ to 30KΩ in 50ppm alcohol, with a concentration slope of ≤0.6 (R100ppm/R30ppm alcohol). Standard test conditions are 20°C ± 2°C and 65% ± 5% RH, with a recommended warm-up time exceeding 48 hours. This sensor is widely used in harmful gas detection systems, automatic exhaust devices, and air purifiers.
