The MKS DLC32 is an open-source, 32-bit offline controller board developed by Makerbase for desktop CNC engraving machines, laser engravers, and small CNC routers. Built around the ESP32-WROOM-32U module, it combines a dual-core 240MHz processor with integrated WiFi, 8192kB of flash memory, and 520kB of RAM, providing substantially more processing headroom than the earlier 8-bit MKS DLC board it replaces. The board ships pre-loaded with GRBL laser firmware and supports both LaserGRBL and LightBurn PC software, making it compatible with common laser engraving workflows as well as CNC milling setups.

One of its defining features is offline operation: the board includes a TF (microSD) card slot for storing engraving files, so jobs can be run without a PC connection. A dedicated screen interface (EXP1 and EXP2) supports the MKS TS24 (2.4-inch) and TS35 (3.5-inch) touch displays, enabling on-machine control and file selection. When connected to a network via WiFi, the board can be controlled through a web interface or a mobile app. The hardware also includes an onboard CH340 USB-to-serial chip for PC programming and online control, a reset/emergency-stop port, endstop and probe inputs, an I2C interface, and a buzzer output. Stepper drivers are socketed and accept standard Pololu-format modules such as the A4988, DRV8825, and TMC2209, with DIP switches for microstepping configuration. An external high-current driver interface is also provided for larger motors.

The MKS DLC32 GRBL controller accepts a DC input of 12V to 24V with a maximum current of 5A and is protected by a 10A fuse. Its mounting holes and board footprint are designed to be compatible with the earlier MKS DLC, simplifying upgrades. With a maximum laser speed of 8000mm/min and support for super grayscale carving, precise positioning, and repeatable circular engraving, the MKS DLC32 is a practical controller for hobbyist and small-shop laser and CNC systems that require offline capability, wireless connectivity, and broad software compatibility.

MKS DLC32 GRBL controller Application

  1. Desktop laser engraving machines requiring offline operation and WiFi control.
  2. Small CNC routers and milling machines using GRBL-compatible firmware.
  3. DIY laser engravers built on common frames such as the 3018-series.
  4. Upgrades of 8-bit MKS DLC controllers to 32-bit processing with WiFi and touch-screen support.
  5. Benchtop engraving systems that need SD-card job storage and mobile app monitoring.
  6. Hobbyist and small-shop automation projects combining laser and CNC motion control.
