The MAG3110 is a small, low-power, digital 3-axis magnetometer capable of measuring the three components of the local magnetic field, which is the sum of the geomagnetic field and the magnetic field created by components on the circuit board. When used in conjunction with a 3-axis accelerometer, orientation-independent accurate compass heading information can be achieved.
The MAG3110 features a standard I²C serial interface with a 7-bit address of 0x0E, and it can measure local magnetic fields up to 10 Gauss with an output data rate up to 80 Hz. The device provides a full-scale range of ±1000 µT with a sensitivity of 0.10 µT per bit, ensuring precise magnetic field detection for compass and positioning applications.
It operates from a supply voltage of 1.95 V to 3.6 V over an extended temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C, and it is housed in a compact 10-pin DFN package measuring just 2 x 2 x 0.85 mm. The magnetometer output noise is as low as 0.25 µT rms, and active supply current at 80 Hz is only 900 µA, with a standby current of 2 µA.
The MAG3110 is ideal for applications requiring accurate magnetic field sensing, such as digital compasses, navigation systems, and position tracking. It supports fast-mode I²C operation up to 400 kHz, making it easy to integrate with most microcontrollers including Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. The module is available as a breakout board with standard I²C pin headers for simple prototyping and development.
