The ESPS3 32 N16R8 module is one of the most advanced modules in DOIT's ESP32-S3 family. Combining high processing power, modern wireless connectivity, and versatile hardware features, it is an ideal choice for Internet of Things (IoT) projects, smart systems, Edge AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things), and image processing. This module is designed to support both simple and complex industrial and research projects.
At the heart of this module lies a dual-core Xtensa LX7 microcontroller with an operating frequency of up to 240 MHz. This processor enables fast program execution, complex data processing, and supports artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) algorithms. Additionally, the chip's low-power design facilitates battery-powered and low-consumption projects.
The ESPS3-32-N16R8 features 16 MB of Flash memory and 8 MB of PSRAM. This memory capacity enables the storage of large volumes of data, the execution of small to medium-sized AI models, and image processing. For comparison, the N4 model in this series only has 4 MB of Flash and lacks PSRAM, making the N16R8 far more suitable for professional and data-intensive projects.
This module supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.0 LE. Stable and fast Wi-Fi connectivity coupled with low-power Bluetooth enables communication with smart devices, gadgets, sensors, and IoT networks. These features make the module ideal for IoT gateways, remote controls, and smart home/industrial devices. The ESPS3-32-N16R8 has 36 GPIO pins supporting various protocols like SPI, I²C, UART, I²S, PWM, and USB.
This capability allows developers to easily connect various sensors, displays, audio modules, and peripheral equipment to the board. This module comes equipped with an integrated PCB antenna, which is independently mounted on the board and functions without needing an external antenna.
What is Edge AI (AIoT)?
Edge AI (Artificial Intelligence of Things) refers to running AI algorithms and models directly on edge network devices (such as mobile phones, cameras, sensors, robots, or IoT devices) instead of sending all data to a server or the cloud for processing. In short: Edge AI means bringing the power of machine learning and intelligent processing from the cloud to the user-proximate devices themselves (the edge).
Why is the ESP32-S3-32-N16R8 module suitable for Edge AI?
Large Memory (8MB PSRAM): For loading and running lightweight ML models.
Vector Acceleration: Specifically designed for AI data processing (e.g., image and audio).
Low Power Consumption: Suitable for portable or IoT devices.
Offline Operation: Can run AI without needing a cloud server.
