The CD74HC4067 is a 16-channel analog/digital multiplexer and demultiplexer breakout module designed to expand the input/output capacity of microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP32, and STM32. Built around the Texas Instruments CD74HC4067 high-speed CMOS analog switch, the module allows a single common signal pin (SIG) to be routed to any one of sixteen independent channels (C0–C15) using only four binary select pins (S0–S3) plus an enable pin. This makes it possible to read up to sixteen analog sensors, or control sixteen digital devices, using just five microcontroller pins instead of sixteen separate connections.

The module operates from a supply voltage of 2V to 6V DC, with a typical on-resistance of 70Ω at 4.5V and 60Ω at 6V. The switch is bidirectional, meaning any channel can serve as either an input or an output, and the break-before-make switching action (6ns typical at 4.5V) prevents crosstalk and signal contention during channel changes. Each channel can handle a continuous current of ±25mA, which aligns well with the current capability of standard Arduino I/O pins. The enable (EN) pin is active-low: pulling it to logic 0 activates the selected channel, while pulling it high disables all switches and isolates the common pin.

The module measures 51mm × 15mm × 5mm and provides clearly labeled headers for all sixteen channels, the common SIG pin, the four select lines, the enable pin, and power (VCC/GND). Typical applications include multi-sensor data acquisition, analog-to-digital conversion with limited ADC pins, signal routing for I2C and SPI buses, keypad and button matrix scanning, audio signal switching, and industrial control systems where a compact, low-power multiplexer is required.
