GP2Y0A21YK0F is a distance measuring sensor unit which composed of an integrated combination of PSD (position sensitive detector), IRED (infrared emitting diode) and a signal processing circuit. The variety of the reflectivity of the object, the environmental temperature, and the operating duration are not influenced easily to distance detection because of adopting the triangulation method. This device outputs the voltage corresponding to the detection distance. So this sensor can also be used as a proximity sensor.
In order to utilize the sensor, you should connect the black wire to ground, red wire to 5V and white wire to the analog input. The analog output voltage will range from 3V when an object is only 4" (10 cm) away and 0.4V when the object is 32" (80 cm) away.
