Description:
OpenMV ranging extension board can measure the distance of obstacles in front, 4 meters range, 1 mm accuracy.
The ranging extension board uses VL35L1X a T0F ranging chip, which measures the distance by measuring the "time of flight", or the time that light is emitted back to the chip.
The VL53L1X is a state-of-the-art, Time-of-Flight (ToF), laser-ranging sensor, enhancing the ST FlightSense™ product family. It is the fastest miniature ToF sensor on the market with accurate ranging up to 4 m and fast ranging frequency up to 50 Hz. 

Compared to measuring and transmitting ultrasonic waves, the field of view of TOF ranging is very narrow and more accurate.
Compared to measuring reflected infrared light, TOF is more accurate in distance measurement, and measuring the intensity of infrared light cannot judge whether it is close or far.
