The MAX30100 Module is an integrated pulse oximetry and heart-rate sensor solution designed for wearable and portable health-monitoring applications. At its core, the MAX30100 IC combines two LEDs (a red LED at approximately 650nm and an infrared LED at approximately 950nm), a photodetector, optimized optics, and a low-noise analog front-end to detect both heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) through photoplethysmography. The red and infrared light emitted into the fingertip or tissue is partially absorbed by pulsing blood, and the reflected or transmitted light captured by the photodetector is processed to derive the cardiac and oximetry signals.
The CJMCU MAX30100 module operates from a supply voltage of 1.8V to 3.3V and communicates with a host microcontroller via a standard I2C interface at the fixed address 0x57. A programmable interrupt (INT) pin is also provided for event-driven data acquisition. The IC features an ultra-low shutdown current of typically 0.7µA, allowing the sensor to remain connected to a battery supply without significant drain, and its programmable sample rate and LED current enable further power savings. Integrated ambient light cancellation and a high signal-to-noise ratio improve measurement robustness against motion artifacts and changing lighting conditions. The module is compatible with a wide range of microcontrollers, including Arduino and other 3.3V-logic platforms, making it a practical building block for fitness trackers, medical monitoring prototypes, and wearable health devices.
