The LTC3780-Module is a high-power automatic buck-boost DC-DC converter board built around the Linear Technology (now Analog Devices) LTC3780 synchronous 4-switch buck-boost controller. Unlike a simple buck or boost converter, this module maintains a stable regulated output whether the input voltage is above, below, or equal to the output voltage, making it suitable for battery-powered systems, solar charging, and automotive power supplies where the source voltage can swing widely. The LTC3780 controller itself operates from a 4V to 36V input range with ±1% output voltage accuracy across a 0.8V to 30V output window, and its constant-frequency current-mode architecture supports a phase-lockable switching frequency of 200kHz to 400kHz with up to 98% efficiency.
On this assembled module, the practical operating ranges are 5V–32V input (with input above 10V recommended for best performance) and 1V–30V continuously adjustable output, with a default factory setting of 12V. Output current is rated at 10A maximum, with 7A recommended for long-term use, and the output power is specified at 80W continuous with a 130W peak; applications drawing more than 80W require enhanced cooling. The module provides both constant-voltage (CV) and constant-current (CC) regulation, selected and adjusted via three onboard potentiometers, and includes undervoltage protection (useful for battery cutoff), output overcurrent protection, short-circuit protection, and a fault indicator LED. The board measures approximately 77.6 × 46.5 × 15 mm including the aluminum baseplate and is designed for industrial temperature operation from -45°C to +85°C.
The module is widely used for lead-acid and lithium battery charging, high-power LED driving, solar panel MPPT-style charging, bench power supply projects, and automotive power conversion. It should be noted that the board does not include input reverse-polarity protection or output anti-backflow protection by default; a Schottky diode must be added externally if these features are required. The LTC3780-Module is therefore a flexible building block for applications that need automatic step-up/step-down operation combined with precise voltage and current limits, rather than a fixed-ratio converter.
