The isolated amplifier IC HCPL7840 is designed for measuring current in motor drivers. Typically, a resistor is placed in the motor current path, and this amplifier can detect and measure the voltage drop across this resistor. The output of this component is differential and isolated from the input. The differential output of the HCPL-7840 is proportional to the current being measured in the motor and can be converted to the desired signal using an operational amplifier. Since transient voltages in switching motor drivers can be very high (several thousand volts in a few tens of nanoseconds), this amplifier is designed to be resistant to these voltages. The HCPL7840 IC is used for isolating signals in applications that require high accuracy and stability.
