The GY-61 is a compact breakout board built around the ADXL335 triple-axis analog accelerometer from Analog Devices, designed to measure acceleration and tilt in embedded electronics, robotics, and motion-sensing projects. The ADXL335 is a small, thin, low-power, complete 3-axis accelerometer with signal-conditioned voltage outputs, capable of measuring both static acceleration (such as gravity in tilt-sensing applications) and dynamic acceleration caused by motion, shock, or vibration.

The GY-61 board provides three analog outputs (X, Y, and Z) that are proportional to acceleration along each axis, making it directly compatible with the analog-to-digital converters of Arduino, ESP32, STM32, and other microcontrollers. The module includes an onboard voltage regulator that accepts an input from 1.8V to 6V DC, simplifying integration with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems. Factory-installed 0.1µF capacitors set the device bandwidth to approximately 50Hz, which is well suited to human-motion and tilt-sensing applications while suppressing higher-frequency noise.

The ADXL335 itself offers a minimum full-scale range of ±3g with a typical sensitivity of 300mV/g, and it survives shocks up to 10,000g, making the module suitable for rugged and dynamic environments. Power consumption is exceptionally low at approximately 320–350µA, enabling battery-powered and always-on sensing applications. The board measures just 21mm × 15mm (11mm high with headers) and operates across a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Typical applications include tilt and inclination measurement, motion detection, vibration monitoring, gaming controllers, image stabilization, and sports and health devices.
