A polycrystalline solar panel which is sometimes called multi-crystalline is made from polycrystalline solar cells. Polycrystalline solar panels generally have lower efficiencies than monocrystalline options, but their advantage is a lower price point. 
Polycrystalline also starts as a silicon crystal ‘seed’ placed in a vat of molten silicon. However, rather than draw the silicon crystal seed up as with Monocrystalline, the vat of silicon is simply allowed to cool. This is what forms the distinctive edges and grains in the solar cell.
When photons hit a solar cell, they knock electrons loose from their atoms. If conductors are attached to the positive and negative sides of a cell, it forms an electrical circuit. When electrons flow through such a circuit, they generate electricity. Multiple cells make up a solar panel, and multiple panels (modules) can be wired together to form a solar array. The more panels you can deploy, the more energy you can expect to generate.
Solar energy works by capturing the sun’s energy and turning it into electricity for your home or business. 
The process used to make polycrystalline silicon is simpler and cost less. The amount of waste silicon is less compared to monocrystalline.
Polycrystalline solar panels tend to have slightly lower heat tolerance than monocrystalline solar panels. Polycrystalline solar panels will tend to have a higher temperature coefficient than solar modules made with mono cells. This means that as heat increased output for this type of cell will fall less. However, in practice, these differences are very minor.
Polycrystalline cells were previously thought to be inferior to monocrystalline because they were slightly less efficient. However, because of the cheaper method by which they can be produced — coupled with only slightly lower efficiencies — they have now become the dominant technology on the residential solar panels market.
