The PS2-JoyStick is a 2.4GHz wireless game controller designed for robotics, Arduino projects, and remote-control applications where a familiar PlayStation 2-style layout is advantageous. It replicates the button arrangement of the standard PS2 controller—two analog thumbsticks, a four-way D-pad, four action buttons, four shoulder triggers, plus Start and Select—giving users a rich set of inputs for controlling ground vehicles, robotic arms, drones, and interactive installations.
The PS2 wireless joystick module communicates wirelessly with the included receiver module over the 2.4GHz ISM band, and the receiver connects to the host microcontroller through a serial communication interface (often referred to as SPI-like in Arduino tutorials, though the protocol is a synchronous serial link). The receiver operates from 3V to 5V DC, making it directly compatible with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems, and the PS2X library by Bill Porter provides a mature, well-documented Arduino API for reading button states, analog stick positions, and pressure values. The controller is powered by two AAA batteries (not included) and offers an operational range of up to 10 meters (approximately 33 feet), which is sufficient for most indoor robotics and bench-testing scenarios.
A vibration feedback motor provides tactile response during use, and an activity indicator LED on the receiver confirms wireless link status. The controller also includes a turbo fire function for rapid button repeat and an auto battery-saving function that reduces power consumption when the controller is idle. The receiver module is compact, typically measuring around 32mm × 17mm depending on the supplier variant, and connects via a 6-pin or 9-pin header with labeled pins for DAT, CMD, SEL, CLK, VDD, and GND. The PS2-JoyStick is a complete wireless control solution—it does not include the host microcontroller, robot chassis, or batteries, which must be sourced separately.
